Legendary trio The Necks return

Australia's legendary artists-in-resonance return to the Blue Mountains Theatre on Friday 2 March.

The Necks are one of the great cult bands of Australia, featuring Chris Abrahams (piano), Tony Buck (drums) and the Blue Mountains based -Lloyd Swanton (bass). These three internationally renowned performers conjure a chemistry together that is brilliant and unparalleled in the world of music.

Consistently achieving world-wide acclaim, they continue to impress, with Sydney Morning Herald arts critic, John Shand declaring their recent concert on 4 February 2018 in Parramatta as “their finest ever live show” and “close to miraculous”.

ZenRasa: uplifting, eclectic instrumental fusion

Grounded in traditional Japanese and Indian melodies and rhythms, ZenRasa seeks to awaken and liberate. “Rasa” is that power in music to evoke an emotion, to transport the listener to another place or time, while the traditional music of the shakuhachi is a meditation practice in Japanese “Zen” Buddhism.

Bronwyn Kirkpatrick and Colin Berryman have combined their considerable talents for this captivating Sunday afternoon concert.

Colin was a disciple of the late Pandit Ashok Roy; while Bronwyn is an award-winning Master of the Shakuhachi, studying with Riley Lee in Australia and later with shakuhachi masters in Japan. Both regularly perform in cross-cultural collaborations, Colin in Eric Whitacre’s Winter, and projects such as The Firebird, Intertwine, D’yari (Kurdish); while Bronwyn with the Bell Shakespeare Theatre Company, the Sydney Dance Company and TaikOz.

For this special debut performance of ZenRasa, Bronwyn and Colin are joined by Dominic Hanly. Dom is the most exciting young percussionist to emerge from the renowned Blue Mountains’ Hands Heart and Feet Drumming and Dance troupe. Performing with the troupe for over ten years, and under the guidance of West African master drummer Sibo Bangoura, Dom has developed virtuosity and flair grounded in African rhythmic discipline.

Together, ZenRasa create an eclectic instrumental fusion that promises to be fascinating, joyous and uplifting.
