Australian Girls Choir and Blue Mountains Youth Choir
A special Blue Mountains Theatre presentation

The Australian Girls Choir (AGC) make their very first performance ever in the Blue Mountains when they present a spectacular showcase of song and dance. You will be stunned by their exquisite singing, impressed by their dazzling dance steps and moved by the passionate performance of the AGC.  Like no other choir you’ve seen before, these girls perform with vibrancy and energy which is how they have sung their way into the hearts of thousands of people worldwide. This enchanting performance will take you on a musical journey featuring a varied and entertaining repertoire from Broadway show tunes to Australiana to contemporary and traditional pieces and world music.

Many will know the AGC as the choir made famous by the ‘I Still Call Australia Home’ television advertisements for Qantas which have captured the hearts of the nation over the past 19 years. Founded in 1984 by Judith Curphey OAM, the AGC proudly trains over 5,500 girls across the country, with the organisation becoming a much loved Australian cultural icon.

The angelic voices of the AGC have been heard all over the globe including singing for Queen Elizabeth II, President Obama and Ellen DeGeneres, and at thousands of high profile events including the Hugh Jackman ‘Broadway to Oz’ Arena Tour.

The concert features all members of the 2018 AGC National Tour Choir and forms part of their 2018 Tour schedule to the ACT and parts of NSW.  The Blue Mountains Youth Choir will also feature as part of this performance.

Blue Mountains Youth Choir (BMYC)
Blue Mountains Youth Choir will host members of the Australian Girls’ Choir while they are in the Blue Mountains as part of their NSW and ACT tour in July.  During their time in the Blue Mountains AGC will present a workshop, teaching BMYC their repertoire, providing some coaching in choreography, and presenting a fabulous concert at the Blue Mountains Theatre in Springwood.  Members of our choir will join them on stage at this special presentation for some songs, and will be performing one or two songs of their own.
BMYC Director Catriona McKay says “This will be a great opportunity for our choir members to meet other young singers, form new friendships and learn from a talented group of experienced performers.”

BMYC Patron Senator the Hon. Doug Cameron “We are very lucky to live in the Blue Mountains where arts and culture are such an integral part of our community and we have access to such a great range of local performances, exhibitions and events every weekend.  The Blue Mountains Youth Choir gives our younger residents the opportunity to become involved in the performing arts within the local community and explore their love of singing in a supportive, professional and fun environment.”

Blue Mountains Youth Choir is an initiative of Academy Singers and provides an after-school music education program for children in Katoomba and Springwood.
