“Musically a delight…these virtuosic performers are a major discovery”
The Guardian, 2016
“Moving, breathtaking and virtuosic” BBC Radio 3, 2016.
Blue Mountains Theatre is delighted to present renowned leading Serbian Roma violinist – Branko Ristic and UK accordionist Faith Ristic performing with their extraordinarily talented international quintet in this special not-to-be-missed concert.
Audiences and critics alike have raved about Faith I Branko’s high energy live performances world-wide. Combining the accordion, violin, effects pedal and tabor pipe, Faith I Branko take the audience on a journey from melancholy Roma violin laments to storming Serbian Kolos, with explorations into jazz improvisation, swing, Gypsy Rumba, Turkish and Indian influenced violin solos. Joyous, passionate, boisterous, fiery and spirited, Branko’s violin soars at break-neck paces whilst Faith’s nimble accordion accompaniment provides a beautiful bedrock.
Branko – a self-taught virtuosic Roma violinist with a painful personal history, opens his heart in their slower compositions, revealing at times the sadness and darkness beneath the frantic virtuosic revelry. They source musicians from all over the world and currently perform as a quintet with collaborating Roma and non-Roma artists Matteo Grassi (Electric Bass), Ramiro Nocelli (Guitar) and Davide Pasqualini (Drums). Other guest artists include DJ Gatenao Fabri, renowned Django Guitarist Cakija Vasiljevic, classically trained Roma violinist Kristijan Petrovic, Srdjan Petrovic, Bojana Bajramovic and cellist Sarah Moody.
Faith and Branko met in Branko’s Roma village in 2009, and with music as their only tool for communication – began a journey that would lead to the creation of their acclaimed debut album “Gypsy Lover” and their marriage!
They are now International Romani media figures – appearing regularly on Balkan/Roma, UK and European TV, and performing regularly at major concert venues and music festivals, in addition to extensive recording and film compositions with renowned auteurs.
“Totally amazing” – Lily Allen
“Quite remarkable musicians” – Stephen Fry
