Joseph Tawadros

Joseph Tawadros Quartet

June 14, 2019, 8:00 pm

Blue Mountains Theatre

Joseph Tawadros AM is one of Australian music’s most impressive and charismatic figures: a composer, improviser, storyteller and a brilliant exponent of the oud, the Egyptian lute.

A multi award-winning virtuoso, Joseph’s music has brought middle-eastern, classical and contemporary jazz together seamlessly and is considered by peers and music critics to be a truly brilliant performer.

Tawadros’s virtuoso technique and depth of musicianship have brought him into contact with the worlds of jazz, classical and world traditions to create music that transcends labels and shatters borders.

He shares an almost telepathic rapport with his band members: brother James, a percussionist, bassist Karl Dunnicliff and jazz pianist Matt McMahon, leading to moments of joyous spontaneous invention.

“One of the most impressive musicians to emerge in Australia … with a dazzling technique dispensing hair-raising tempos… His writing displays a real depth of emotion …revelling in a zest for life and celebration.” – The Australian
