The Joseph Tawadros Quartet are renowned for playing thrilling and furiously paced numbers through to beautifully introspective and tranquil music. This concert will be a celebratory performance of Joseph Tawadros latest album ‘Permission to Evaporate’. The suite draws its inspiration from a wide variety of styles and sounds from bluegrass to world, jazz to folk – drawn together by Tawadros’ trademark virtuosity and lyricism and by the stunning musicality of the oud.
Joseph is a natural entertainer, with an infectious sense of humour, and the Joseph Tawadros Quartet provide brilliant music and also a great show.
Joseph’s last three albums have won the Best World Music ARIA awards – in three consecutive years, ‘Permission to Evaporate’ in 2014. Add to this, five Limelight Awards, the Freedman Fellowship for Classical Music, a finalist in the NSW Young Australian of the Year awards and more. The 32 year old has been guest artist with the Australian Chamber Orchestra and a number of symphony orchestras, he’s played with Katie Noonan, Neil Finn as well as American jazz greats John Abercrombie and Jack DeJohnette, to name just a few. Last year Joseph became the first Australian composer to have his music played by the prestigious Academy of Ancient Music in London.
Joseph is joined by Matt McMahon, one of Australia’s finest jazz pianists, virtuoso percussionist James Tawadros bendir (drum) and req (tamborine like) and Karl Dunnicliff who has been nominated for this year’s National Jazz Award, for outstanding musicians under 35 years of age.
