Carmen

Melbourne City Ballet: Carmen

June 10, 2018, 7:30 pm

Blue Mountains Theatre

Melbourne City Ballet’s touring season of Carmen will grace the Blue Mountains Theatre stage on Sunday 10 June.

The evening will showcase the company’s beautiful artists as they perform the company’s most signature work, showing audiences why this company has grown such a strong following across the country over the past few years.  Carmen features intricate footwork, dazzling costumes and an emotionally intoxicating storyline that will have audiences captivated from beginner to end.

Melbourne City Ballet’s Artistic Director Michael Pappalardo reimagines Carmen to Bizet’s famous score to bring to life an evocative opera ballet paying homage to the well known spanish inspired tragedy.  Carmen tells the story of a city policeman Don Jose whose mother calls him to return home to marry childhood sweetheart Micaela but a chance encounter with the enchanting gypsy girl Carmen, leads them both into a relationship of both passion and destruction.  Pappalardo’s Carmen is designed to be a loud and bold affair, pulling the audience in from the first overture.
