Live at the Village presents Paul Cutlan String Project

Friday 25 November, 8pm

Tickets $35 Adult, $25 concession

Cutlans works are refreshingly original and exude vitality… the composing and improvising are of equal merit – some achievement for such an ambitious, genre-defying project.” –  Sydney Morning Herald.

The renowned clarinettist and saxophone player Paul Cutlan has joined forces with five of Australia’s finest improvising string players for two rare performances of his acclaimed suite Across the Top.  This extended work, inspired by Paul’s touring across northern Australia, draws together 20th century classical and jazz music with dance rhythms from the Balkans and South America. There will also be some new material featuring special guest Gary Daley on piano.

The Paul Cutlan String Project musicians are Paul, (clarinet and saxophone), Brett Hirst (bass), Oliver Miller (cello), Veronique Serret (violin), Inge Courtney-Haentjes (viola) and Liisa Pallandi (violin).

Paul Cutlan has appeared across the world at major festivals, including The Birth of Cool at Sydney Festival.  He is a member of the Australian Art Orchestra, and has performed with acts as varied as Lou Reed, Gurrumul and Geoffrey Rush in Diary of a Madman.

“A work that is entirely of its own world, taking much that is good from a range of genres and influences”
