Pianist-composer Mike Nock has remained at the forefront of Australasian Jazz for over five decades, continuing to attract critical acclaim and delight audiences worldwide. His extensive background in a variety of genres with many of the world’s top musicians give his live performances a rarely heard breadth and depth. Based in Sydney since 1986, he previously spent 25 years in the USA working, touring and recording with many of the world’s top jazz artists.
Attracting many awards and honours over his lengthy career, in 2014 he was awarded the Don Banks Music Award, the most valuable individual music award in Australia. In 2009 he was inducted into the Bell Awards Australian Jazz Hall of Fame and in 2004 presented with the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM). His biography SERIOUS FUN – the Life and Music of Mike Nock was published in 2010 and from 1996-2002 he was music director for Naxos/Jazz.
His current trio features the extraordinary talents of bassist Brett Hirst and drummer James Waples and is regarded as one of the top modern jazz groups in Australasia. Both musicians have played with Mike for several years and feature on many of his award-winning cds, bringing a wealth of contemporary experience to the music.
