From unlikely beginnings in 1987 as a band experimenting privately in a room, with no intention of ever performing in public, The Necks have gone on to achieve extraordinary worldwide fame for their unique way of making music.   Every year since then, their reputation has grown.  In 2015 alone, they performed to sell-out houses around the world, including two huge tours of Europe, performances of Discrete + Oblique: The Music of Brian Eno at the Victoria Arts Centre in Melbourne and The Barbican in London; a sold-out concert at the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in Berlin featuring Chris Abrahams on pipe organ; their first tour of China; and they released their 18th album Vertigo internationally, to great acclaim.

For their 30th anniversary in 2016, The Necks have a whole range of special activities planned, in Australia, Europe, and the USA.  As part of this celebratory event The Necks will  perform for the very first time in the Blue Mountains –  the home of legendary Necks bassist, Lloyd Swanton.   This is a major coup for the newly established Blue Mountains Theatre, hosting the first and one of only two Sydney performances of The Necks.

Featuring Chris Abrahams (piano) Tony Buck (drums) and Lloyd Swanton (bass) these three legendary performers conjure a chemistry together that is brilliant and unparalleled in the world of music.   Not entirely avant-garde, nor minimalist, nor ambient, nor jazz, the music of The Necks has been acclaimed world-wide:

“…Entirely new and entirely now…They produce a post-jazz, post-rock, post-everything sonic experience that has few parallels or rivals.” – The Guardian

“This was selfless art …”. – Sydney Morning Herald

“Absolutely riveting…how three musicians can sound like eighteen is a mystery… extraordinary magical sounds… “  – Financial Times (UK)

“Like a vast sound-mass suspended in vibrating, seething stillness, its colour and luminosity changing slowly” – TELEGRAPH, (UK), FIVE STAR review of  London Concert

“A magic act masquerading as a piano trio, this Australian group delivers long-form improvisations that shift with such patient beauty that it casts a bit of a trance. You’ll seldom spend an hour that passes so quickly — and rewardingly.” – Los Angeles Times
